Mental strength: Only the next point counts

How a fixed routine between points helps you let go of mistakes.

Many matches aren't decided by the forehand but in the head. If you get annoyed about a missed ball, you carry that frustration into the next point – and often make the next mistake right there.

A fixed routine for the time between points helps: accept the mistake briefly and switch the racket to your other hand. Walk calmly back to the baseline and breathe out deliberately. Then make a clear, simple plan for the next point, such as "serve to the backhand". Finish with a small ritual like straightening your strings or bouncing the ball – and only then play again.

Key point: The last point is over. Focus only on the next one.
